An online contest for musicians who collaborate over the internet

Between September and November 2022, the Collaborative Music Contest was calling for music submissions that demonstrate the spirit of online music collaboration. Entrants had a chance to win a share of $ 46,561 USD in prizes. The submitted music was heard by 14 judges made up of established artists and music industry practitioners and professionals.

In 2022, the contest featured 2 submission categories (Online Studio Collaboration and Online Live Jamming) as well as a THEME of 'new meets old', to which collaborating musicians were encouraged to respond. It was free to enter the contest and artists retained all ownership of the music that they submitted.
Contest Rules, entry requirements and judging criteria are listed below.

Many thanks to everyone who submitted their music this year as well as to our sponsors and contest judges!

Contest Rules

All submitted tracks must be created during online collaboration between at least 2 music makers and respond to this year's contest theme of 'new meets old'. These responses could be presented either via music and/or lyrics and artists are encourage to interpret the theme in various creative ways.

Tracks must be submitted into one of the contest categories: Online Studio Collaboration or Online Live Jamming:
- Online Studio Collaboration is a process where some or all elements of communication, recording, editing and mixing are  executed with online tools. These tools can include dedicated online music collaboration platforms as well as online exchanges of audio/midi files. This collaborative process can be either synchronous (real-time) or asynchronous (non-real time).
- Online Live Jamming is a process where collaborating musicians play live over the Internet with the use of software that enables online live jamming. This process is synchronous (real or near real-time). You can submit your recordings of sessions that included live online jamming in this contest category.

Contest organisers do not matchmake artists as this contest is for creative teams formed externally and using remote music collaboration technologies of their choice.

1 track can be entered per musical act/group in each category.  One act/group can enter different tracks in separate contest categories.

Maximum track length is 5.5 minutes.

It is completely free to enter the contest and artists retain all ownership of the music that they submit.

All submitted tracks need to be original, no covers allowed. All musical genres are permitted.

Judges will be assessing the the alignment with the chosen contest category (Online Studio Collaboration or Online Live Jamming) as well as the response to the contest theme of 'new meets old'. Other assessment criteria will include the scope of online collaboration as well as the songwriting and music production qualities.

It is critical to explain the collaborative process in detail and credit all collaborators in regards to the roles that they performed in the creative process.

In order to submit the track, you will need to complete the submission form available via a link below and upload the MP3 or AAC file via the link included in the form. We reserve the right to only assess the submissions with correct file formats and aligned with one of the contest categories (Online Studio Collaboration or Online Live Jamming).

Accepted file formats: MP3, AAC 320kbps.

Anyone, living anywhere in the world can enter.

All submissions must be in by midnight (AEST, Sydney  time) on 27th November 2022.
